Horizons for Homeless Children
Horizons for Homeless Children is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing programs and services for homeless children throughout Massachusetts. The Playspace Program and its Western Regional office located in West Springfield, MA designs and equips Playspaces (child-friendly spaces) in homeless shelters in Pittsfield, Springfield, Holyoke, Amherst, Northampton, and Greenfield. Volunteers are recruited, trained and placed in these Playspaces to spend time playing and engaging with the children. These Playspaces are essential for young homeless children to engage in learning and healing activities.Playspaces are staffed by trained volunteers, called Playspace Activity Leaders (PALs), who commit two hours weekly for at least six months. PALs enable parents to participate in activities such as parenting groups, budgeting classes or job searches.
