The Massachusetts Chapter of The Nature Conservancy in Sheffield, MA seeks a volunteer/intern to assist with various land management administrative projects. Projects, outlined below, will vary and the length of the position will depend on the amount of time it takes the Volunteer to complete all assignments. Additional projects may be added should the Volunteer have time and interest. It takes all types of expertise to work in conservation! The Nature Conservancy’s administrative staff keeps conservation work on schedule by ensuring all systems are running efficiently. This assignment is ideal of someone looking into a “behind the scenes” conservation career. S/he will be invited to staff meetings and will be able to learn from the variety of conservation staff within the office. DUTIES: • Assist with organization and scanning of land protection and stewardship files. • Create a binder with information on local activities for our summer LEAF intern crew. • Index reports and articles related to wildlife and habitat management. • Review and organize media and land management photos. • Compile records of visitor and hunter use within Western Mass Preserves. • Assist with office administration tasks and additional projects as needed. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: • High School degree; conservation coursework in an undergraduate setting desired. • Interest in a conservation career • Reliability, efficiency, and ability to work independently. • Well developed organization skills. • Ability to work with technology: Word, Excel, Access or similar; Sharepoint/CONNECT. • Versatility, flexibility, and the ability to learn quickly from others, from published sources, or from experience. Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or strain. Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and is located within a seated office setting.
